My Beautiful Father
posted this on a listserv today:
I, David Daniels, now say that artist/ poets are unlucky to depend for a living on terrific Academia where even Kissinger has said the infighting is so fierce because the rewards are so low.
They must keep others who are not loyal to them out to survive.
It’s that simple. To expect anything else from people who have allowed themselves to be caught in a web of small meals from sadistic dependency struggles is futile.
Many poet/ artists have warned me of mostly untalented fiercely striving people who DECIDE who is good and who is bad and what is and is not art. Who exclude young poet/ artists by the bushel from exposure in Academic Conferences and Large Academic Websites.
I don’t name names because everyone knows who they are.
And very often tired crap not fresh cream rises to the top.
It WOULD be good if poet/ artists could open a website of refusé.
But few have the time.
For most of us poet/ artists have to earn our living in the world and we produce our art with sure knowledge of our TALENT and the JOY of our time in CREATING and we self-publish in print and on the web and let the pathetic uninviting job slavery Academic Conferences wither.
It is a great joy to be free.
We, who were so busy having fun giggling over all the bad, forbidden words that we never sat in the front row to kiss a dull teacher’s ass, salute you.
Your Friend,
David
