— The great Alice Ruiz, from the book navalhanaliga, 2nd edition 1982. This is a very famous poem. Ms. Ruiz is one of the best lyricists in a culture whose distinction between poetry and song lyrics is much, much more blurry than ours. She is also an excellent composer of haikus in a poetic culture which takes haiku very seriously as an art form.
